Welcome to McKissick Elementary - A School-wide Title I Model School!
First Grade Plants a Garden!
Students in Mrs. Sullivan, Mrs. Tarr, and Mrs. Woodall's rooms made scarecrows and planted vegetables, flowers, and herbs in newly completed garden boxes. In order to keep the birds away from their carrots, peas, and radishes, each child made a scarecrow marker to mark the place where they planted. In the weeks to come, students will measure and collect data on their plants to see just how quickly their vegetables and flowers grow. Keep checking back here to find out more about our garden! We would like to thank members of our building and grounds staff who filled each of our garden boxes with topsoil. We can't wait to see what grows in our garden. Click here to see photos of us making our scarecrows.

Greenville Drive Reading Initiative
Thanks to all of the third, fourth, and fifth grade students who took part in the Greenville Drive Reading Initiative. Mrs. Price and Mrs. Owens have been involved in happily reading all our students written responses to what they have been reading. Now, for those who qualify, at trip to see the Greenville Drive play is in the works. Check back soon where we will list the names of qualified students who will enjoy a free ticket and transportation to a Greenville Drive game. Parent tickets will be discounted for this event. We are so proud of all our readers who "tripled" their efforts over last year. A special thank you to Mrs. Paige Owens for overseeing the initiative and organizing our event!

Parent Resource Room Open
We are so excited that our construction has ended and everyone at McKissick now has a new home! One of those brand new places is our Parent Resource Room. This is a great place for parents to come and learn parenting techniques together, use our computers, and work alongside our social worker and others to help find jobs and other resources in our area. An Open House is being planned for this space (located just across from our front office). The resource room is staffed Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Be on the lookout for upcoming events that will bring our parents together like never before. For more information about the valuable resources available, please contact our social worker, Robin Lynn.
Ingles' Tools for Schools
Use your Ingles Advantage™ Card and help our school. When you make purchases using the Ingles Advantage™ Card, Ingles will give back to our school a portion of those sales. There is no additional cost to you. The portion can be used by McKissick to purchase valuable school supplies. Once you have signed up or re-linked, our school will earn reward points toward school materials every time you shop at Ingles! To register your card, click here. Drop by the McKissick office or the Ingles Store to register. If you don't have an Ingles card you can apply for one at no charge. Your card will need to be re-linked at the beginning of each school year. Thank you!
